There are six Caicos Islands; Providencials, North Caicos, East Caicos, West Caicos, South Caicos and Middle Caicos. Providencials also known as Provo is the most developed of all of the islands. You can find all types of modern conveniences such as shopping, spas, villas, hotels and restaurants. The north shore contains many beaches and the coral reef. North Caicos gets the most rain so it is the most tropical and lush of all the islands. There is a lovely protected lagoon. There has not been an accommodation on the island in the past but new accommodation is being developed. You can enjoy bird watching, local crafts, see some of the largest flocks of pink flamingos in the world or visit a large Loyalist plantation. If you are travelling to the islands just for diving than West Caicos is the best choice. Much of the island is uninhabited and the ecological areas are pristine. The sandy coves and crystal clear water make this a hot spot for divers. You can view the old ruins of Yankee Town and some old railway works as sisal was cultivated on the island. Caicos has a one of a kind attraction only found in the Caicos Islands; the Caicos conch farm. You can see how conch pearls are formed, view a conch show and enjoy some excellently prepared conch dishes. This farm is the main exporter for conch in the world. One of the main historical spots on Provos is Cheshire Hall which was once a cotton plantation that is now in ruins. All of the buildings ruins have been preserved and date back about 200 years. This are is the backdrop to the town and provides some of the most spectacular island views.
